Medicare
Under the Federal Government's Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative, you may be able to access Medicare subsidised psychological support and counselling. In 2021, this would mean that you could access Focussed Health Psychology for $90 per 50 minute session. This is the 'gap' fee you would be paying (our fee is $178.25, and Medicare will give you back $88.25).
We see clients for 6-10 sessions. Generally fortnightly, sometimes monthly. We are only seeing clients on Zoom!
And if you can't see us, but want to find another psychologist to work with, click here for my info sheet on how to find a (good) psychologist!
What to do next-
If you would like to see a psychologist without a Mental Health Care Plan, you can contact us straight away. Your out of pocket fee would be $178.25, but private health insurance policies may pay some of this cost back to you. Private clients might also experience a short waiting period.
Alternatively, you can see Liel Bridgford (Provisional Psychologist) for a full out of pocket fee of $90 (no rebates available).
If you would like to access Focussed Health Psychology through the NDIS, please read about that here.

What to do next-
- Send us an email hello@focussedhealthpsych.com.au or give us a call to make sure we have capacity to see you at the moment. There are just two of us that can see you through Medicare, and we don't want to waste your time if we don't have the capacity to see you.
- Talk to your GP and let them know that you are interested in seeing a psychologist under a Mental Health Care Plan. They will assess you (ask you what's going on) to determine whether they can refer you to a psychologist under this initiative. You should request a longer time with your GP when you book your appointment (ask for a double appointment), to allow time to do this. You can print this form and take it with you if it helps!
- Info your GP might want from me:
- Our names: Sally Shaw - Psychologist, & Seona Ilalio - Psychologist
- Practice address - 54 Railway Rd, Blackburn 3130 (although everything is on Zoom at the moment)
- Email - hello@focussedhealthpsych.com.au
- Once you have a Mental Health Care Plan completed, we can start sessions, and you can claim the rebate from Medicare.
